This Hydrorims Wheel Sealant review marks a welcome return to what originally started Waxed Perfection – testing car cleaning chemicals and detailing products in real-world conditions.
Over the last six to eight months, I’ve spent most of my time reviewing pressure washers, which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. However, after recently buying a new-to-me car with gloss black alloy wheels, it felt like the perfect opportunity to get back into detailing products and see whether Waxaddict Hydrorims could keep them looking their best.
I didn’t actually purchase Hydrorims directly from Waxaddict. Instead, I bought it from a friend who recommended I give it a try. Before using it, I wanted to do a little research, but surprisingly there wasn’t much information available.
In fact, finding the product on the Waxaddict website proved more difficult than expected. It wasn’t listed under the wheel care categories or subcategories, and the only way I could locate it was by using the website’s search function. While searching, I also came across another wheel sealant that appeared to be hidden in much the same way, which made me wonder how many other excellent products are tucked away that customers simply never discover.
Fortunately, finding the product turned out to be the hardest part of the experience.
What Is Hydrorims Wheel Sealant?
Hydrorims is a SiO2-infused, water-based spray sealant designed to protect alloy wheels from brake dust, road grime and everyday contamination while leaving behind a slick, hydrophobic finish.
Application is refreshingly simple. Spray it onto clean, dry wheels, work it in with a microfibre cloth, buff off the residue and allow it to cure before exposing the wheels to water. Multiple coats can also be applied to increase slickness and protection.
Simple instructions are always welcome, but the real question is how well it performs once the wheels have seen some miles.
Waxaddict Hydrorims First Impressions
Before using Hydrorims, I thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated each alloy. Since I was starting with freshly prepared wheels, I wanted to give the sealant the best possible surface to bond to.
I sprayed the product generously onto each wheel before working it into the surface using a clean microfibre cloth. After allowing it a short time to settle, I buffed away the remaining residue.
Buffing couldn’t really have been easier.
What immediately stood out to me, though, wasn’t how easy it was to remove—it was the finish.
Even while buffing, I noticed a level of gloss that genuinely surprised me. The gloss black wheels suddenly looked deeper, richer and far more reflective than they had with previous wheel sealants I’d tried.
Naturally, I repeated the process on the remaining three wheels, and every one of them produced exactly the same result.
At that point, I was impressed, but experience has taught me that plenty of products look fantastic on day one.
The real test comes after a week or two on the road.
Hydrorims Wheel Sealant Review After One Week
After around a week and a couple of hundred miles of normal driving, it was time for the first wash.
If I’m being honest, this is usually where many wheel sealants begin to disappoint. I’ve tried several products over the years that offer plenty of gloss initially but seem to disappear after only a handful of washes.
Because of that, I wasn’t expecting too much.
The first thing I noticed was during the snow foam stage. The foam didn’t seem to cling to the wheels in quite the same way as untreated alloys, suggesting there was still a healthy layer of protection present.
After giving the wheels nothing more than a gentle clean using a soft detailing brush and a little APC, I rinsed them down.
That was the moment Hydrorims really impressed me.
The water beading was excellent.
Water simply wanted to leave the surface, and the hydrophobic behaviour was still extremely noticeable. Most wheel sealants I’ve previously used would already be showing signs of wearing away by this point, but Hydrorims looked as though it still had plenty of protection left to give.
Once the car was dried, the wheels retained the same deep gloss I’d noticed during application, while the surface still felt incredibly slick to the touch.
Hydrorims Wheel Sealant Review After Four Weeks
Fast forward four weeks, and I’m still genuinely impressed.
The protection hasn’t disappeared, cleaning the wheels remains noticeably easier, and that deep gloss is still very much present.
Even if I end up applying another coat every month as part of my regular maintenance routine, I’d happily do so. The application process is quick, effortless and more than worthwhile considering the finish it leaves behind.
For me, Waxaddict Hydrorims has comfortably outperformed several other wheel sealants I’ve used previously.
Is Hydrorims the Best Wheel Sealant?
Calling any product the best wheel sealant is always difficult because everyone has different expectations.
Some people prioritise durability, while others simply want maximum gloss or the easiest possible maintenance.
For my own needs, Hydrorims strikes an excellent balance.
It delivers impressive gloss, noticeably reduces how much dirt sticks to the wheels and still provides excellent water repellency weeks after application.
Whether it’s the absolute best wheel sealant available is something only longer-term testing against competing products will answer, but it’s certainly one of the most impressive wheel sealants I’ve used in recent years.
Things to Consider
The only genuine criticism I have isn’t directed at the product itself.
It’s simply that Hydrorims is surprisingly difficult to discover on the Waxaddict website unless you already know it exists. Having to rely on the website’s search function feels like a shame because I suspect many customers simply won’t realise it’s available.
As for the sealant itself, I’ve struggled to find much fault.
Application is straightforward, removal is effortless, the gloss is excellent and, perhaps most importantly, the protection actually lasts.

Writing this Hydrorims Wheel Sealant review has reminded me why I enjoy testing detailing chemicals just as much as pressure washers.
It’s always satisfying when a product exceeds expectations, particularly when I wasn’t expecting anything out of the ordinary.
Hydrorims has delivered excellent gloss, impressive hydrophobic performance and noticeably easier wheel maintenance throughout my testing.
Most importantly, it has continued to perform weeks after application rather than fading away after the first wash, which is something I’ve experienced with more than a few competing products.
