A quick note before we dive in…

Just to be upfront — this product, Taint it Black by Dodo Juice, was kindly sent to me free of charge for testing and review. This isn’t a paid promotion, and all thoughts shared here are entirely my own, based on real-world use.

I’ve been a long-time fan of Dodo Juice — not just for the quality of their products, but also for their quirky names and fun approach to car care. Naturally, I was keen to put this one to the test.

What is Taint it Black?

Taint it Black is a black-pigmented wax made for faded or dull exterior plastic and rubber surfaces. It’s perfect for bumpers, trim, mirror housings, and tyres that have lost their colour and finish. Rather than leaving a greasy shine, it restores a clean, satin look that lasts.

It’s supplied in a 30ml pot — small but mighty. A little product goes a long way. I treated all four tyres and a few trim pieces with ease, and still had plenty left. Many other users report durability of several months per application, and after a few weeks of British weather, I’ve had no issues with wear or fading.

The application process is simple: apply a small amount using a foam applicator or old Microfibre cloth, leave for a few minutes, then buff off. It dries quickly, doesn’t streak, and doesn’t transfer to surrounding panels. You can build up extra layers if your trim is badly faded or if you want a deeper finish.

“Years ago… we discovered that it’s nothing short of amazing on external trim. On new trim, just apply a thin coat, let it haze and buff it off a few minutes later. It leaves behind a satin finish that lasts for months – not weeks.”

What other users are saying

From online reviews, users consistently report long-lasting results, a tidy matte finish, and great performance in all weathers.

One detailer noted: “It still looks great after over a month of daily driving in the rain. The colour hasn’t faded and the finish is just as crisp as the day I applied it.”

Another said: “I used an old cloth to apply it and was surprised how even and clean it looked. Lasted about 3 months before needing a top-up — impressive for a pot this size.”

My experience

  • Application – very straightforward. A small dab was all I needed.
  • Drying – Dried quickly, ready for buffing in just a few minutes.
  • Buffing – easy to remove, no streaking or oily feel.
  • Finish – a rich, natural satin black that looked great on both trim and tyres.
  • Durability – still beading water and looking clean weeks later. Very impressed.

Simple user guide

  1. Prepare: Clean the area thoroughly and ensure it’s dry.
  2. Protect: Wear gloves — the wax is pigmented and may stain skin.
  3. Apply: Use a foam applicator or soft cloth. Apply a thin, even coat.
  4. Wait: Allow it to dry — takes just a few minutes.
  5. Buff off: Use a clean microfibre cloth to buff to a satin finish.

Final thoughts

Why I rate it: Taint it Black is an easy-to-use, fast-drying trim and tyre wax that gives impressive results. It’s not greasy, doesn’t streak, and lasts far longer than many traditional dressings.

Top tip: Use a dedicated applicator or cloth for this product — it’s black and won’t wash out easily.
