Adding a Personal Touch: First Mods to My Ford Puma ST-Line X

ST-Line badge installed on the front grille of a Ford Puma ST-Line X

So, this post is a little off-topic compared to the usual detailing deep-dives here on Waxed Perfection, but still firmly in the world of car care — just from a different angle.

Recently, I picked up a nearly-new Ford Puma ST-Line X. Out of the box, it already looked pretty sharp: silver paintwork, alloy wheels, rear spoiler, ST-Line badging, sporty seats, half-leather interior, and those slick rear tinted windows. It’s a great-looking car, no doubt about it.

But let’s be honest — part of the fun of getting a new car is making it your own.

First Mod: ST-Line Kick Scuff Plates

The first upgrade was a subtle but practical one — a set of ST-Line kick scuff plates for both the driver and passenger door sills. These not only look great, they help protect the paint from everyday scuffs and scrapes when getting in and out of the car. A small touch, but it instantly adds a more premium, finished feel inside.

Adding Some Front-End Presence

Next up was something inspired by the sportier ST variant of the Puma — an ST-Line badge for the front grille. Fitting took around 15 to 20 minutes using two threaded bars and nuts, and it’s a simple mod that really transforms the front end. It gives the car a more aggressive look without going over the top — exactly the vibe I was going for.

Paint Chip Touch-Up with ChipEx

Even though the car was in excellent condition, it did come with a tiny stone chip on the bonnet. Nothing major, but enough to catch the eye once you know it’s there.

To sort it, I used a touch-up paint kit from ChipEx, which is colour-matched to your specific paint code. The process was straightforward: clean the area, apply the paint, and then use the blending solution and buffing compound included in the kit. While the chip isn’t completely invisible, it’s much less noticeable now and, more importantly, protected from further damage.

Rear-End Finishing Touches

To balance things out at the back, I added a set of ST-Line Rear Reflector Full Guards, finished with a carbon fibre-look logo. These are simple stick-on pieces that really tidy up the lower rear section. The carbon-effect detail ties in nicely with the rest of the car’s sporty look, and I’ll be doing a more in-depth write-up on this mod soon — stay tuned.

Number Plate Holders & Interior Finishing

Next came a set of number plate holders featuring Ford Performance branding — again, a small touch, but one that adds a little extra flair.

Finally, I upgraded the interior with a full set of genuine Ford ST-Line mats. Before fitting them, I treated the carpets underneath with Nanolex fabric protection to help keep everything fresh and stain-free.
Final Thoughts

Modifying your car doesn’t have to mean wild body kits or remaps — sometimes it’s the little changes that make the biggest difference. These first few mods have helped me put my own stamp on the Puma ST-Line X while still keeping things clean and OEM+.

If you’re into tasteful upgrades or looking to protect and enhance your new ride, hopefully this post gives you a few ideas.
